We have holidayed at Periwinkle Cottage for the last four years.  Each visit is like coming home, with the warmest of welcomes from our hosts Tom and Ann Murdoch. We come for the sailing in St. Margaret’s Bay, but we also enjoy the sea-kayaking, walking trails, shopping in Chester and Mahone Bay, and fine seafood dining.  At Colwells’s Cottages, we are only 45 minutes away from Halifax or Lunenburg, but the best part is really relaxing in our comfy cottage, taking in the view of our beach from the deck, shopping at the local farmer’s market, and feeling like we belong. Colwell's By the Sea is in a perfect location for touring Nova Scotia. A half hour south you have Lunenburg and Mahone Bay with their picturesque streets and interesting shops, and a half hour north you have Halifax. The drive south along the coast is beautiful with many photo opportunities. Colwell's By the Sea offers a price and property that are fantastic. The cottages are comfortable and provide everything you could need in a home away from home, including an ocean front view! CW - Minneapolis, MN

There is no need to look anywhere else if you are searching for a comfortable, well appointed cottage adjacent to a beautiful sandy beach on the South Shore. The views are spectacular, and if the beach isn't enough to keep you occupied, the cottages are within an easy hour's drive of each of Halifax, Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg and the Annapolis Valley. Tom and Ann run a top-notch operation, with friendly attentive service and easy conversation. We have stayed here more than once and will be back again soon. There is no finer spot than this and our kids love it, too.  G and LG, Calgary, Alberta

My husband and I were delighted with our accommodations at "Colwell's by the Sea". Ann and Tom Murdock were wonderful hosts. The cleanliness and attention to every detail in our darling "Periwinkle" cottage were  outstanding. The kitchen was fully equipped with all I needed, the bedrooms, living area and bath were cozy and tastefully decorated. I especially loved the knotty pine panels, the cobblestone fireplace and nautical porthole window that overlooks the sea shore. The bath even had a jacuzzi tub which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was so nice to come back to such a warm and inviting cottage after a long day of sight seeing and hearing the waves lulled us to  sleep every night. Colwell's is close to Peggy's Cove, which was more beautiful than I had  imagined, also close was Halifax, where we went to the Maritime Museum,  complete with Titanic artifacts, and the CSS Arcadia, which was built in  1913 and was used in hypography(charting the depths) which was fascinating.  The museum is a must see along with Mahone Bay and The Fisheries of the  Atlantic museum at Old Lunenberg, definite jewels along the coastline. These  towns are so picturesque, absolutely postcard perfect! We also drove the  Aspotogan peninsula where we took in all the quaint fishing villages with  breathtaking views around every corner. We enjoyed every meal we ate in Nova  Scotia, too, especially the mussels! We had a memorable 32ND wedding anniversary trip and staying at "Colwell's  by the Sea" was the very best choice we could have made. We hope to come  back again soon. We recommend Colwell's highly!
